New
Hi, my name is Karen, and I have been on Celexa for a year and a half
with varying results. Most of the time I just felt like the dose
wasn’t high enough. No depression, but OCD, and loads of anxiety.
Now I am trying Lexapro, and hope it does the trick. I went from 40
of c. to 20 of Lexapro. Today is day 2. The only side I am having
is queasy stomach on and off.
I am hoping to get back to feeling like I am running my life, and
not this illness. I would think that’s the goal. So far, I haven’t
really reached it. My pdoc kept telling me to avoid stressful
situations, which I have done, but I am also avoiding “living”. If I
am not doing the things I want to do, its not right. So maybe this
lex. will give me the “coverage” I need to take my life back without
feeling overwhelmed, having OCD, ruminations, or anxiety. Well,
maybe not most of the time! Karen

Hi everyone
I am on 225 mg of Effexor XR now. My Doc is starting me on 10 mg of
Lexapro. She said to take in the evening. What time of day do most
people on the list take these meds?

Hi JW,
I have been on Lexapro since Oct and I take 5mg in the morning.
That seems to work out for me.I think its a personal preference
and it depends onhow you feel when you start taking it. If it makes
you sleepy u may want to take it at night.
Good luck!…..Mary

I took Celexa in the morning, it didn’t seem to make me sleepy.

I have been taking Lexapro for three weeks now. I have tried just about all of the SSRI’s (Celexa, Prozac, Zoloft) plus Effexor and Wellbutrin. All of them except Wellbutrin cause extreme jaw clenching and tooth grinding. The Wellbutrin does nothing.
My pdoc put me on 5mg Lexapro. Almost immediately my jaw became so sore from clenching that I can barely open my mouth wide enough to eat. I have been living on soup because chewing is extremely painful. She added Buspar 5mg twice daily a week ago, hoping that would relieve the jaw problem.
Has anyone else experienced this? My pdoc says that I am extremely sensitive to SSRI’s. I’m wondering how long it will take the Buspar to start working.

I take the Lex in mornings as soon as I get up. Seems to work for
me.

Hi Charlotte,
Yes, I have noticed an increase in jaw clenching since I switched
from Celexa to Lexapro. It gives me really bad headaches. I just try
to be more aware of it and relax when I notice I’m doing it. Good
luck.

Hi my name is Laura. I currenly take prozac, which I am finding to be
quite helpful. I recently heard about Lexapro and am interested in
finding out more about it. I know that it is perscribed for
depression, but, like prozac, does it also help wth obsessive
compulsive disorder and eating disorders?

Hello. My name is Bobby and I was diagnosed today with social
anxiety disorder. My primary care doc diagnosed me. He gave me the
name of a psychologist who I made an appointment to see next week.
I am 27 and I think I have been suffering from this for about 5
years or so. Although, I tried to ignore it for so long, I could
have been suffering from it longer. I remember be uncomfortable in
certain social situations in college, but it didn’t really kick in
until I got a job after college. It began suddenly. I had a very
stressful job, so I attributed the feelings I was having to that
stress. I moved to a less stressful job within the same company
after a couple years and I actually saw things get worse. I avoided
interaction with co-workers; I stopped participating in meetings,
started screening my calls. When I left that company and went to a
new I stopped doing meeting and came up with excuses. I stopped all
social interaction, avoided emailing; taking calls, calling people,
it got bad. I recently left that job and now work at home, which
has made it even easier to avoid everything. The only person I
don’t feel weird around is my wife. I was a mess at my wedding
earlier this year and didn’t get to enjoy it the way I know I should.
Despite all this, I will go to sleep tonight feeling better. I have
finally taken the first step to getting help. I was put on 10 mg of
lexapro. I don’t know much about the drug or how it will help, but
that is why I am hear, for that and to get support from others who
have taken the first, second, third and other steps.
Help me help myself, please.
Bobby

One last thing, I’m long winded tonight LOL. I want to commend you
for taking the first step and feeling positive about it. Also, I
love your last sentence…
That’s is a VERY important point. I think part of healing is us
helping ourselves. We can’t expect a pill or dr to cure us. We have
to WANT to help ourselves.
Welcome to the board.

I had the opposite - I couldn’t stay awake after taking the Lex, so I
switched to night time dosing. Are you tired after taking it? If so, maybe
switch
to night time.

My problem with sleeping is that I have been taking mine at night before bed,
no problem there it’s just the next morn. I fill awful. fill sooo tired and
by evening fill fine again
I take mine at about 9 pm. Someone suggested earlier, like 5 or 6 pm. Maybe
that would work. You’d be tired enough to sleep, but hopefully the
“sleepiness” would be gone by morning when work rolls around. Just a thought.

being scared im going to die
Why do you feel like you’re going to die? Terry

I kind of know what you mean. After my panic attack the first time,
because I thought I was having a heart attack, I was afraid I’d die,
actually, I was convinced I was going to die. I was sure it was my
heart, even though I’d been checked out. Our minds can do funny
things to us. The lexapro has helped me a lot.

For the past 3 years I have been taking 1 1/2 mg of Xanax that has helped me a

gastrointestinal upsets. Any input you can give me on this med and the side
effects would be greatly appreciated. Theresa

When I first started taking Lex, I had heartburn for the first few

days. It went away within a week, and it really wasn’t that bad as
long as I kept some antacid tablets with me and kept something in my
stomach.
Just make sure that you don’t take the Lex on an empty stomach, and
remember that while you may have some initial side effects, they
should fade within a week or two. Mine did.

I take Lexapro with Topamax (Toprimate) and was wondering does anyone else take
these two medications together? They both help me with depression.
Thanks!

Hi I am new to lexapro–just started last nite and was wondering what
to expect. I’ve suffered from mild bouts of depression on and off but
since a surgery I had about a month ago I have hit rock bottom. This
is the first time I’ve tried any form of anti depressant.
I also joined a gym today hoping that that would help alleviate some
of my depression.
Any suggestions or ideas or comments on what to expect or tips would
be so appreciated.
Thanks
