Hi - I’m replying to your earlier post about your appetite increase
and sleepiness, although your post has somehow been deleted from the
board archives, along with about 20 other posts…numbers 66 through
96 (?!?)
Anyway, these drugs vary so much in their effects on people. It’s
pretty unusual to get an increased appetite on Lexapro or Celexa,
though. That effect wasn’t reported in any of the Lexapro clinical
trials; in fact, the Lexapro group wasn’t signficantly different from
the sugar pill group in appetite changes or weight gain. If
anything, Lexapro has a small (not statistically significant) risk of
*decreasing* your appetite — 3% reported appetite decrease, vs. 1%
on placebo. From what I’ve read, no one reported appetite increase.
The same is true with sleepiness, what they call “somnolence” in the
studies. People did report it, but the Lexapro takers didn’t
experience any more sleepiness than did the placebo group.
I made the transition from Celexa to Lexapro overnight, with no side
effects whatsoever, except for a little mild insomnia. The Celexa-to-
Lexapro switch shouldn’t cause any real discomfort or disruption in
physical well-being, especially if you were already used to the C.
It’s essentially the same drug, minus the right-hand side of the
molecule.
In any case, your side effects will probably just fade away after a
few weeks. I doubt it will be as long as 6 to 8 weeks, as you said.
Even the Celexa side effects disappear earlier than that, and Lexapro
is supposed to be faster and cleaner. So I’d just hang in there if
you can.
