A friend needs to know how to cut the Lexapro….

Hi all, one of my best friends up North has just gotten her Lexapro.
This is her first AD. So I am helping her with thur this….like
a “buddy system”. I know it is hard to go on a AD, but Celexa wasn’t
my first so I guess I wasn’t that scared. Plus I had the liquid
version…which no longer exists???
Anyways, she asked if any of you had trouble cutting the pill in 1/2.
She just tried, and had to hang up the phone and try somemore.
I remember Gina mentioning this. She does have a pill cutter from
taking Ativan, but I don’t know if it will work for this hard pill.
Gina mentioned using a razor blade…
Also can anyone tell the lowest dose you can cut down to? I want her
to start as low as possible like I did with Celexa.
She is very scared to feel anxious…etc.

I used to have to cut my Celexa pills in quarters. The only thing
that worked well on those pills was a sharp razor blade. Tell her to
give it a shot (score it first by making a line in the pill with the
blade in the spot she wants to cut).

There’s no reason why she shouldn’t cut the Lexapro pill in quarters,
and there’s also no reason why she shouldn’t ccontinue to do so, and
stay at that low dosage, if she’s feeling the benefits.
I use the same technique that Chris uses. I’ve tried a pill cutter
but I could never get it to cut the pill in equal halves. She
probably should buy single-edged razor blades for the job, because
they’re easier to cut with, not to mention less dangerous.
Lexapro has a very thick, tough coating, so she definitely should
score the pill a bit before cutting it. Enough detail on this? ;) Gina
