Forgot they were releasing this!!!
Hi everyone,
I totally forgot that Lexapro was coming out!!! I have been on
Celexa since mid March and am interested in switching. Hopefully
some of you could let me know if you’ve notice any of the following
changes since switching from Celexa to Lexapro:
1) Do you experience a Celexa-like “crash”
2) Any improvement in motivation? I feel better on Celexa but
unmotivated… I’m late for work a lot
3) Weight gain?
4) Any symptoms that the Celexa *did* address, that the Lexapro
*does not*?
5) Would you switch back to Celexa?
If anyone has a sec and could give me their input I’d be so
grateful. I want to get in to see my doc as soon as possible to
make the switch,I can’t wait!

OK, here’s my input. (FYI: I’d been on Celexa for two and a half
years, and I’ve been on Lexapro for about three to four weeks.)
Not sure how to answer this because I’ve never had antidepressants
motivate or demotivate me, either way. Lack of motivation can be
caused by a lot of different things, most of which are environmental
or psychological and not touched by any antidepressant. If your lack
of motivation is caused by depression or insomnia, then the right
antidepressant can relieve it. Did Celexa help your depression?
If by motivation you mean energy, then some a/ds tend to be
stimulating, others calming. Celexa is more on the calming side,
from what I’ve heard. So far, to me, Lexapro seems to be more on the
stimulating side. I’m more energized and perky than I was on Celexa.
I was even a little wired at first. So L. might make it easier for
you to get up in the morning.
No, never. This has everything that Celexa has without the
drawbacks. I’ve had zero side effects, I’m not depressed or anxious,
I feel great, and all systems are go.

Bridget,
1) I also never experienced a “crash”-but I was usually in bed by
about 8:00 everynight, due to tiredness.
2) I definately had the motivation problem with Celexa. Late for
work/missing work. I don’t know if this was just the tiredness or so
other lack of motivation, but it got better when I stopped taking
it.
3) I just started last week Lexapro so don’t know about weight gain
yet. ( I did gain weight on Celexa)
4) ?-Not sure
5) No

I’ve been taking the Lexapro for over three weeks now. I’m supposed to
take it at 5 mg a day, but have been having trouble splitting the small 10
mg pill in half. I just have crumbs of pills left now, so I’m asking my
Dr. for a prescription for 10 mg (and will cut in half and actually take 5
mg — more or less) and that way my insurance company will let me refill
the prescription when I run out early with crumbs.
My take on the side effects are: I’ve had one person tell me they think
I’m losing weight. I’ve had one bad night where I woke up in the middle of
the night and couldn’t fall back asleep. I don’t have that “groggy”
feeling I used to have on Celexa. And with the exception of the first
week, I am able to get up and out of bed in the morning easily now.
Any comments or “me too’s” would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Christie

Christie,
So the Celexa made you tired too huh?? I am starting on the Lex
soon and that is nice to know that it doesn’t have that nasty effect
that Celexa does.
