Hey there Lexies!
Day 20 on 30 mg of Lexapro and feeling great. And I have to add that
the O’s are much easier now that I’m off Celexa. Woohoo!

Hi Liz…I might question your Doc about your dose. I’m glad you’re
doing so well but your dose does sound kinda high. It is 10mgs
Lexapro is equal to 40mgs Celexa
http://www.healthyplace.com/Communities/Depression/Site/story_lexapro
.htm
Highest recommended dosage of Lexapro is 20mgs
http://www.healthyplace.com/medications/lexapro.htm
And since highest recommended doasage of Celexa is 60mgs
http://www.healthyplace.com/medications/celexa.htm#dosage
I, myself, might have some questions.
There was one lady that posted on the Celexa board about being on
120mgs of Celexa for a lengthy period of time. Besides having
adverse effects from being on that high dose for so long she was
having a very difficult time tapering down.
I’m just offering this info out of concern and wish you luck!

-Hi, yes, day 22 of lexapro, and the o’s are easier. No sex drive
yet, but at least the o’s are there.
I find that lexapro has a profound effect on my caffeine intake.
If I have caffeine, I feel like a busy bee, and if I don’t have
caffeine, I could sleep all day. I hope I can figure out some happy
medium. Karen

Hi Shell,
Thanks for the information. I appreciate your concern. I had not seen
that information before you pointed it out to me. Trust me, I will be
talking to my doc soon. Although, I haven’t had any problems yet and
I feel wonderful. Still I’m going to look into this further.
Thanks!

Liz,
You were actually correct in a previous message. Technically, 10mg.L
is = 20mg.C. All they did at Lundbeck was two remove the second
molecule. Celexa is made up of two molecules, 50% right and 50% left,
only one of them is the active drug, so they removed th other one.
Therefore, 10 mg. of the single molecule would be equal to 20mg of
the double. The 10 = 40mg C stattement is related to efectiveness,
not equal doses. For an unexplained reason, 10mg. performs as well
as 40mg. of C in tests (theoretically, it should perform as well as
20mg, since they are equivalent). 20mg. of L has performed better
than both 40mg of C and 10mg. of L in studies, 30mg. of L has no
studies published, so no one is sure whether it is more effective
than 20mg of L, but it is technically the equivalent of 60mg of C, so
should be certainly safe (80mg of C is used frequently in Europe
safely, and the equivalent in L is 40mg.).
I know this sounds confusing, but the bottom line is that 30mg should
be safe (whether is is more effective than 20mg is another story) and
I wouldn’t worry as long as you feel well and are monitored by your
Dr.. You can be sure that at some time, higher doses will be tested
to see if they are more effective since there is evidence that 20mg
of L is better than 10, maybe 30 or 40 is better than 20.
Good luck on the L. I am on 60mg of C and doing well on it so I will
stay with it, do you find 30mg of L more effective than 60 of C., or
just less sides?

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the information. I do understand your explanation. I had
read an article on WebMD’s website that said basically the same
thing you just told me about removing the inactive ingredient,
therefore, making Lexapro twice as strong as Celexa. However, I
don’t agree with the idea of feeling 4 times better. That’s just my
opinion though.
I was doing fine on 60mg of Celexa. As I said in a previous
messages, one of the reasons I wanted to switch was because I hoped
my headaches would go away. Well they didn’t go away. So I dunno.
I’ll have to analyze that further. However, on Lexapro, the other
sides have gone away, such as the tiredness and taking a long time
to reach orgasm. But that is just my experience. I can’t say that
will be the same result you will have if you switch. The anxiety is
about the same, maybe a little less, but nothing to write home about.
