Celexa stopped working HELP

Wednesday, December 31st, 2003

I had been on Celexa for about a year at 40 mg–went down to 20 mg and
after about 6 mos. my depression came back strong. Now have been back
on 40 for about 8 weeks, does not seem to be helping much. Doc also
added in Wellbutrin (only on for two weeks at 150)–my question is:
has anyone gone to lexapro after celexa seemed to lose effectiveness?
Also, I know there are plenty of people who switched from C to
lex–from what dosages did you switch? Did you have taper off C
before switching to Lex?
Please, any answers will help, I am in a tough bind here.

SIGNS YOU MAY BE SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION
* You’ve got enough Prozac in your purse to tranquilize King Kong.
* You really lose it whenever someone says, “Good morning.”
* You spend more time in bed than a hooker at a Shriners convention.
* You keep your house so dark that mushrooms are growing in the
carpet.
* Given a choice, you’d have no preference between sex or a root
canal.
* On a really bad day, you wouldn’t come to the door if it was
Publishers Clearing House.
* You list Dr. Kevorkian as a character reference.
* Alcohol gives you strength and food settles your nerves.
* Your hands shake so badly that you can brush your teeth without any
voluntary movement.
* You’ve cried so much that your contacts have rusted to your
eyeballs.

I was on Celexa prior to Lex , but others here have experience with
the switch from Paxil to Lex .
From what people here have said , they do it gradually and never
just stop the paxil .They can tell you better than I can .
How many mgs of paxil are you currently taking?

Paxil to Lexapro

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

Has anyone switched from Paxil to Lexapro. I was put on Paxil 9
years ago for fibromyalgia. It did not help it and I have not been
able to get off Paxil due to the severe withdrawal effects. I am
planning on trying to get off it by going on Celexa or Lexapro. Has
anyone done this?

Wonderings and general “stuff”

Anthony-Have not heard from you in a few days and just hoping
everything is ok with your Mom .
I know the Holidays can be a hard time for alot of people. This will
be my first Christmas away from my husband since we met.I am going to
my Mom’s and my son will be there so that’s good .
I am constantly worried about my Mom,but try to take things a day at
a time.Not always easy.
My mom had me when she was in her 44.She is going blind and even
typing that hurts, cause denial is a wonderful thing at times …but
she is and she has heart disease (aortic valve and angina ), she has
severe osteoporosis, she has had several TIA’s (mini strokes) she
also has diverticulosis (pockets in bowels ) Osreoarthritis … well
you get the idea .
We are very very close .I love this lady with all my heart .My son is
just a great kid.I’m divorced from his father but I made sure my son
(Devin)did NOT go through what I did when my parents divorced .
My ex was abusive to me,but kids have an unconditional love for their
parents .I would not allow anyone to put his father down, and went to
great lengths to keep him from feeling in the middle of the divorce .
It has paid off .
He is a very emotionally healthy 14 year old .
Anyway, My son and mother are why I am not living with my husband .I
can’t uproot my son when he is doing so well in school and has good
friends.
Although I have a sister that lives on PEI , I am the one that has
looked after mom and house repairs etc.
My husband knew when he took the job i could not go with him .He
admitted hoping I would change my mind, but that’s not gonna happen .
So this is my Christmas situation ugh lol.I will be with my husband
for New Year’s so that good at least, But I have to be back here for
the dog barking dog trial that is Feb 13th .I have 25 names so far of
other neighbors saying my dogs are not left out barking .Many didnt
know I even had dogs .
Anyway I just thought I’d tell abit about myself and background .
I hope others feel free to do this .
We all need to vent sometimes .I just want people to know it’s ok to
do that here .
Please don’t feel that because something is off the topic of
Lexapro,that you can’t share it here .
My hope for this group is that we offer our experiences with
Lexapro, but are also here to support each other through the hard
times .
Anyway enough from me lol (man I can sure rattle on ) lol
Anyway hugs and you are in my thoughts and prayers .

Link for drug interactions

Monday, December 29th, 2003

This link was posted on the celexa site .I think it’s a good thing to
have.I’m wondering if I should be taking the tryotophan or not .I did
the drug interaction test on this site and it said there were no drug
interactions for celexa and tryptophan ,but it could not give me
results for Lexapro and tryptophan …. anyway here is the link .

tryptophan

Monday, December 29th, 2003

for a long time, tryptophan was off the market. It was tainted or something. I watched a show on it. Suz

Not sure if that was the right link ….

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

I want to clarify that I didn’t mean it was ok to take SJW with an
SSRI.
I was talking about tryptophan, which is ok to take with an SSRI.
Trypophan is an amino acid and not an MAOI

When my Dr. put me on the tryptophan it was about 2 weeks after he
had first put me on Celexa .
His exact words were :
“This helps the Celexa work better ,makes it more effective,I think
it will help you , and help with sleep too.It also helps with side
effects. ”
My doctor didn’t really tell me what the heck it was though .I had
never heard of it before .
I asked in the celexa group if anyone had heard of it or was on it(
Dagmar may remember that ) …..and no one was , or not much in the
way of replys so I dropped it .
I looked it up and found out it was an amino acid…….but not much
else really.
