PMS and Lexapro

Hi All,
First off, I am taking an AD for the PMS also. Started with Prozac
which pooped out on me, then to Celexa and now to Lex. Just started
back on the LEx so PMS’ing BIG time this week. Crabby nasty old
self. Needs time to work. Anyone here that knows me knows that I
have been bouncing and shouldn’t have done it! I won’t anymore;
will stick with it once and see what happens.
Second, hey, where is everyone? Have heard nothing from Anthony and
am beginning to wonder about him. Hugs to Mary and the rest of you!
Take care and write more!

I went to my doctor today and told him about the Lexapro not helping with
anxiety and PMS, so he wants me to increase from 5 to 10 mgs and to stop
taking Buspar, as I guess the generic version is causing me to have drug
interactions. I’m hoping that will help!

My Dr. explained that when you’re taking more than one medication,
sometimes the drugs can “compete” with each other or interact adversely
with each other. I explained to him how I was either anxious and agitated
around the PMS time, or I felt exhausted and drained. He decided to have
me stop taking the Buspar, and start taking higher doses of Lexapro, first
from 5 to 10 mg per day, then up to taking two 10 mg per day. I think he’s
trying to level me out. Hope that helps explain it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Shauna, although I can’t take Prozac because it
agitates me too much and I stay up all night, never really sleeping
deeply. So I’ll keep taking the Lexapro in increasing doses and see what
happens. If that doesn’t help me, then maybe I’ll switch back to Prozac
and take something additional to help me sleep.

I need to know if anyone has experience severe pms symptoms on
Lexapro. I started taking 10mg of Lexapro in February 2004. I noticed
a couple of months later that my PMS symptoms were worst. I did not
have this problem on celexa. In fact, my pms has been in check since
on antidepressants since 1996. My doc raised my lexapro to 20mg. I
noticed that the severe pms symptoms returned.
