All about Lexapro

Hello all. I just started Lexapro on Tuesday 3/11. I am taking 5 mg
once a day. I was going to start at 10 mg, but I am super sensitvie
to meds. I took the first dose at 12 PM. I was fine until around 9
PM that night, i got very hyper, my jaw ached, I had a dull headache
and my senses were very hightened. Everything was bright and I
noticed alot of movement going on around me that I normally wouldnt
notice before. I didnt have any problems sleeping that night. I took
my second dose of 5 mg yesterday and felt ok until around 10 PM…
my vision was very heightened again. White lights were purple and
made everything around them the same color. I went to sleep and
started having nightmares and finally got to bed around 3 AM this
morning with no more dreams. I came off Buspar over the weekend and
wondered if anyone else had problems similar to these? I suffer from
anxiety and Im really hoping this will work as I do feel a little
better each day. My doctor told me to try xanax again to take the
edge off while the Lexapro is taking affect. The Buspar petered out
after a year. It didnt work the best either. Just my experience.

I cut my Lexapro from 10 mg to 5 mg 3 days ago.
I like the fact I feel more sexual and not so fatigued at night
time, but I’m feeling a little edgy.
Anyone had experience with this? How long does it last?
Any other withdraw problems?

if lex is one half of the molecule of celexa it only makes sense that
10mgs of lex=20mgs of celexa.
Now.. being a scientific person.. just because the”efficacy” of 10mgs
of lex = 40mgs of celexa just means that the clinical response lets
say to anxiety is equal in the trials they made.
Any of the internet studies pposted do NOT show the final dosage of
all the ppl who participated in the studies. They say all patients
were on 10 mgs for 4 weeks and then were titrated up to 20 mgs IF
NEEDED…but they dont tell you how many ppl had to increase (this
was the study for gen. anxiety dis.)
That is how I understand it.
For me… im am now on 4 weeks of 10 mgs (was on 15 for a while but
too sleepy so I cut back).
I now feel 85% great but notice maybe 2 hours before I take my dose
(I take it in the afternoon now) my anxiety breaks through a bit.
That means that either my body is still adjusting which I doubt cuz
it has been 4 weeks now or that I need a little more.
If I end up at 15 mgs and got rid of the little bit of anxiety i
still have.. i WILL feel the same as I did on 30 mgs of celexa.
My question is : on 10mgs of lex my sex function seems almost
normal… maybe my drive is a tiny bit decreased.. I wonder if 15mgs
of lex will terminate my drive again like celexa did..
would make sense.. they are afterall the same chemical.
does any of this rambling make ANY sense:)

I’ve been reading your posts about the dosages for Lexapro. One of my best
friends is a Pharmacist at a state hospital in PA. Here is what she had to
say…
Lexapro is 10mg…that is the dose that should be final, though it can go
higher. But our drug rep says 10 is it. 10 is pretty much equivalent to 20 OR
40 of Celexa. I know, it doesn’t make sense, but they are finding that Lexapro
is best at 10mg and comparable to all doses of Celexa. Does that help?

I was on 40 mg of celexa when I was switched. My Dr.said because
Lexapro is more concentrated, a lower dosage was needed .They
apparently isolated the inactive isomer in Celexa, that was thought
to be responsible for the undesirable side effects … leaving a
purer form of the active ingredient of the drug. He said 40mg C =
10mg L
Do ya think they even REALLY know ????? LOL Sometimes I feel like a
laboratory white rat!!! LOL

Just switched to effexor from lex. Tired ALL the time on Lex and
gaining weight.
Effexor has made me quite anxious, but I’m sleeping good and can’t
finish a whole plate of food….which is good news.
Partner is chilling me out on the anxiety and I’m hoping all will be
fine.
Feels really good to get up and be able to stay up…not so tired all
the time.

Hi All,
This question may have been asked before, so I apologize in advance if that be
the case.
If I were able to switch to Celexa or Lexapro, from Paxil, is it safe to just
start taking the new medication or do I need to wean myself off of the Paxil
first, before starting another med? Thanks!

I was reading ATKINS FOR LIFE the other day. He said folks on SSRI’s
tend to gain weight as their metabolism has slowed. I find I am just
hungry all the time..carb craving but I was when I went off it also.
Since I just started back on, do most of you find that the appetite
thing goes away.
I just dont want to gain anymore weight.

I am curious why you switched from celexa Suz? Side effects?
I just went back to see my Dr. after so many months and he said that
he wasnt prescribing Celexa anymore as lex was better.
