Lamictal?

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Anyone here tried Lamictal? I know it’s just been approved here in the US
for mood stabilizing and BipolarII. Pdoc prescribed it today for me. Just
wondered if anyone else had any comments?

Topamax

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

Hi Sandi,
Who prescribed the Topamax? The pdoc? I asked about if for weight loss and my
pdoc wouldn’t prescribe it just for that.
Stephanie
back my sexual drive and energy. It just so happens that I have not gained any
weight taking it.

A couple more side effets.

Changing…I think

Friday, October 29th, 2004

I have been taking 60 mg of prozac daily, and when I first went on it, it
was great, and I got rid of the horrid down…but it seems to have come
back, and I was told that maybe I need to change to a different drug, or add
one. I am afraid of Wellbutrin, as it is always talking about
siezures..however I did take it to quit smoking…but was told that Lexapro
is really great…just thought I would like an opinion. I am not concerned
with sexual side effects, but am with weight gain, been there done that.
Oh, I am a gardener in Oregon, thus the e-mail addy…it is not a depression
thing LOL My nic is slugga
Thanks,

Sexual Side Effect

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

First off, I do not want to offend anyone, so just so you know, this is about
sexual content. If it will offend you, please stop reading this email.
The only, most annoying, side effect that I’ve expierenced since being on
Lexapro is not being able to orgasm (and possibly headaches, but I started
having bad headaches before being out on Lexapro and maybe tiredness).
Everything else having to do with sex - wanting it, having it - is normal. I can
get all the way to the point, but not “explode”, so to speak. Do any women here
have this problem, too? Will it go away?
I truly hope that I didn’t offend anyone. It’s just that this side effect sucks
and I want to know if other women are having this problem, too.

Hmmmm….

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

I’ve been reading (lurking O.o ) since this group was founded.
It seems to me, from what I’ve been reading, that Lexapro is really not much
different from Celexa. Period. The sides are the same, the starting sides and
withdrawal, the weight issues as well. Wasn’t the point of the Lex to be Celexa
only better? Seems to me that it’s a big bust. The people that Lex works
for….it works well. Same for the Celexa. The big difference is price? Have I
got that right? That Lex is more expensive than Celexa was/is?
So that you all understand….I was on Celexa and having alot of sides at first.
I was waiting to see if the Lex was going to be the god-send it was being touted
as. Obviously I have no love for the Pharm. companies and this is a good example
of why not. I’m not saying that the drug doesn’t work at all….just that they
lied about *how* effective it was going to be and how few side effects it was
going to have. The whole point (supposedly) for developing Lexapro was to
eliminate all those nasty side effects…. Seems to me that the main point from
the Pharm companies point of view was the patents and money to be lost when
Celexa went to generic.
What do you all think?

One more question about withrawl symptoms

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

Hi,
One more question…just in case.
If I find myself on the cruise not feeling well from withdrawl symptoms,
would they get better immediately if I added back some mgs?
Stephanie
Thanks so much for writing!
Thanks for advice on the cruise……no way am I going to take a chance of
not feeling well on that cruise…I’ve been waiting for it for a year! We are
leaving on a Saturday which is the day after I usually drop down….so I plan
to stay on the previous week’s dose for an extra week. I believe at that time
I will be on 15 or 10mgs of Paxil and 30mgs of Lexapro. As a matter of
fact….I may just stay on the same dose the week after I get back….we’ll see.
I
see my doc again the Friday after I get back. I was a bit sea-sick on the
last cruise so I don’t really want to add dizzier to that!
It is also great to hear that you are feeling better on the Lex. I have
energy/motivation/stamina problems too so maybe it will help me. I am so used
to
feeling this way..I guess I never expect it to get better, but maybe it will.
It did when I started the Wellbutrin which I am still on. We’ll see. I am
also glad to hear that things might improve once off the Paxil….what I mean
to say is that I was thinking I wouldn’t really know how the Lex would really
make me feel until I was completely off the Paxil. The doc seemed dissapointed
that I was still having lots of witdrawl symptoms even though I was adding
the Lex too. I wondered about that too since I was adding another SSRI as I was
coming off one too.
Right now…I am not where I want to be so it is good to know it might take a
bit for the Lex to work after getting off the Paxil.
Thanks again for writing.
Stephanie
Stephanie,
I know how hard it is to wean down off of Paxil. I do have a
suggestion. Don’t plan on going completely off of it the week you’re
going on your Disney cruise. I’m sure it will pick up your spirits
but withdrawing completing off got pretty bad for me, I couldn’t
imagine if I were on a boat feeling like I was LOL.
Give the Lex a good chance to work once you’re completely off the
Paxil. It’s been wonderful for me. Paxil, besides the weight gain,
made me sleepy and lazy…with Lex I’ve really got my energy back and
actually getting up in the mornings rather than sleeping most the day
like I did on Paxil.
Good luck to you

Feel like giving up

Monday, October 25th, 2004

Hi:
I am diagnosed with depression/social anxiety/adult ADHD. After 8
yrs. of every medication cocktail possible, I am now taking lexapro
10mg, dexedrine spansules 20mg, klonopin 2.5mg, and restoril 15mg (for
sleep). I am now in my 7th week of lexapro at 10mg. It seems that
every time I feel it is beginning to work and I’m starting to feel
better, I fall back into a state of depression, lethargy, and social
avoidance. For the first few weeks, I was taking adderall for my
stimulant, but my pdoc thought it might have been creating too many ups
and downs in my mood and thus preventing me from benefitting from the
therapeutic effects of the lexapro. So he switched me to the
sustained-release dexedrine spansules, which are much smoother-acting
for me. But my mood has been horrible. I’m staying with my family and
they’re having guests visit quite often; I find that I just can’t
muster up the energy to even converse with them or answer questions.
I’m just totally mopey, depressed, and exhausted. My pdoc said that,
even though I’ve tried every other SSRI and they worked only minimally,
the lexapro might work better for me, even though it has not so far
after 6-7 weeks. Last session, he said that if my mood doesn’t improve
by our next session (this upcoming week), he would be in favor of my
increasing the lexapro dose. His reasoning for this is that SSRI’s
have compound effects in some peope- while they can alleviate anxiety
and depression while helping you maintain an even mood and healthy
energy levels, they can also destabilize your mood and make you
lethargic and emotionally numb. He said that by increasing the dose,
it is very possible that the positive effects will override the
negative ones. I am skeptical; even the SSRI’s that helped me never
took this long to work. We had also spoken about my possibly swiching
to an MAOI, but it seems that sometimes he is in favor of this and
sometimes he changes his mind and thinks that I should continue to give
the lexapro more time. I’m confused, though; I am so sick of jumping
from one cocktail to the next, but it seems as if nothing is helping
enough to warrant my sticking to one regime. This is really getting
bad; I just feel like giving up.

ANY WEIGHT GAIN ON LEXAPRO

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

I STARTED THIS MEDICINE TODAY AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS
EXPERIENCED WEIGHT GAIN OR AGITATION. EXPERIENCED IT ON WELLBRUTINXL.

Went to the doc yesterday

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

Hi all,
I went to the Doc yesterday and she was dissapointed that I have not been
able to ween down more from Paxil. It has just been too hard to function and
cut
down faster. She convinced me that maybe it was worth it because it is true
that each time I go down, whether it is 5 or 10mgs, I have witdrawl symptoms,
so why not tough it out and go thru it 4 times instead of 8. So I am going to
give it a try. My husband is helping out by driving to work for us, so I
will get thru it. I am also going on vacation 11/8 (another Disney Cruise) so I
am hoping that picks up my spirits.
Also, due to my malabsorption from my gastric bypass, I am not sure how much
of the 20mgs of Lexapro I am taking, is being absorbed. So, based on the way
I am feeling, I am going up to 30mgs. I know 10mg is the usual dose, but she
said she has prescribed up to 40mgs a day.
So, that is it for now. I am hoping to fee “well” soon and loose some of
this weight.
