Sexual Side Effect
First off, I do not want to offend anyone, so just so you know, this is about
sexual content. If it will offend you, please stop reading this email.
The only, most annoying, side effect that I’ve expierenced since being on
Lexapro is not being able to orgasm (and possibly headaches, but I started
having bad headaches before being out on Lexapro and maybe tiredness).
Everything else having to do with sex - wanting it, having it - is normal. I can
get all the way to the point, but not “explode”, so to speak. Do any women here
have this problem, too? Will it go away?
I truly hope that I didn’t offend anyone. It’s just that this side effect sucks
and I want to know if other women are having this problem, too.

Do you take that along with the Lexapro?
Heather
I had the same problem, but my doctor just added Wellbutrin and that solved that
problem right away.
Thanks,
Sandi

Wow.. 100mgs of Wellbutrin seems like a lot. Do you take it just for that side
effect or for something else, too?
Heather
Yes,
I take 10mg a day of Lexapro. I also take 100mg twice a day of Wellbutrin SR.
Made all the difference in the world for me. Ask me anything you want:)

Sounds complicated to me. LOL
Heather
Well I first started taking it because I was on Effexor and I was so tired. He
gave me the Wellbutrin to give me more energy and for the sexual side effects.
I need the lexapro to help increase seratonin and wellbutrin for two
neurotransmitters, called dopamine and norepinephrine. So that is why I take
both drugs. I was wrong on the mg of the Wellbutrin. I take the purple pill
and those are 150mg each. So I take a total of 150mg twice a day of Wellbutrin
SR.

The meds have made you lose weight? You take this other one to stop weight loss?
I might confused. LOL See? Sure.
Heather
I also take topamax. LOL talk about complicated. Now that one I take ONLY for
the side effect of weight loss. I’ve lost 47lbs since May 1st. Wanna see

Hi Heather,
I also am annoyed with the hold on having an
“explosive” orgasmic moment! It actually disturbs me
very much, and my partner as well. I must say, since I
have started lexapro I have noticed a HUGE increase in
my desire. I haven’t been able to “stay” interested or
physically “display” my interest because of
depression. But I must confess I am very frustrated
not being able to climax when I want to!
My doctor also recommended taking a combination of
wellbutrin, like Sandi’s doctor.
I also have headaches from the lexapro & wasn’t sure
if that was normal b/c I went to the doctor for
tension headaches before.
I feel better being on the lexapro and really like
waking up with some excitement about my day! But I am
also a little upset about the climax problem!

HI Heather
I am glad you brought that up I am in my 4th week on 10mgs of
Lexapro. And the ONLY side affect besides headaches I can account for
is the sexual one. My first attempt brought me to the edge with
going over the top if you know what I mean and I had to stop Ithought
I was going to have a heart attack, and the next time forget it
NOTHING, total numbness.. I hope there is an answer for this this
because everything has gotten better I certainly don’t need this.. my
sex life has always been so healthy and hubby doesn’t like me
unsatisfied. any feedback would be great

–Sandy I too a snoop at your photo you look great. Not such a bad
side affect unless it gets out of control.. My mom was taking effexor
and she got down to 92lbs, so she is OFF that now. My sister in law
though took Paxil and gained almost 30. It is a strange thing

Heather:
Well, you did ask for women to respond…but I did want to mention that as a
male, I have had the same problem with luvox, celexa, prozac, zoloft…these
drugs make it very difficult to climax. Wellbutrin and viagra had been
recommended as add ons but didn’t seem to do anything. Hopefully the drugmakers
will come out with some mediciations that eliminate these side effects and at
that point I’ll sign right up….

Glenn

My follow up visit with my doctor is tomorrow. Hopefully she’ll suggest or
prescribe something to alleviate this “problem”.
