Hey Now

Monday, January 31st, 2005

Hello All I am new here … Actually I am not on Lexapro but my hubby
who had his right leg amputated below the knee in April and then in
June he had to have the same leg cut again above the knee… Needless
to say he is very, very depressed ….. The Dr. started him on 5
milgs. of lexapro … We have to cut the 10 milg pill in half… He
has been on this pill since about June I would say and that is about
seven months already and I see no improvement in him…. He still is
very depressed …. Is it true that an anti depressant works only for
people who are depressed with no good reason …. and people who
really have reason to be depressed it does not work as well for ….
I don’t know but this is what people tell me… Do you think he needs
a higher dose or what?? Thanks in advance for any thing you can tell
me….

Celexa v. LexaPro

Monday, January 31st, 2005

Hi all, I am new to the group and just read through a bunch of
posts. Glad to be here.
I switched from Celexa to LexaPro about 8 weeks ago. Celexa was
great for me but when I tried to cut back my dose I had several
emotional breakdowns, so my doctor switched me to 10 mg LexaPro
daily and it seems to be working out well. She also is having me
tested for ADHD. Does anyone here know what meds are recommended to
combine for ADHD with LexaPro?
I have noticed some differences. First of all, I have more energy
and don’t find myself having these shuddery yawns several times
throughout the day. I also felt my libido returning. On a different
note, my dreams have been extremely vivid and strange. Somewhat
disturbing too is that I at times had trouble distinguishing between
dream and reality in my memory. Also, I have noticed that after 2
glasses of wine I am *really* ready for bed!

Ending day 3

Monday, January 31st, 2005

I just wanted to write and thank everyone who has posted here. I’ve
been reading all the past messages, and it has really helped me today.
I’m just finishing day 3, and I slept most of the day. I also haven’t
been hungry and I’ve had some nausea. It’s nice to read that lots of
people felt this way.
On a positive note, I didn’t cry once today. It was just last Friday
that I felt overwhelmingly sad and I could barely talk to anyone
without tears. My poor doctor walked into the room Friday and I burst
into tears when I saw her. LOL.
This is my first time on any sort of medication. Is anyone else here
having fun with menopause?
Thanks again for all the information. I appreciate the how open
everyone is. It’s really made it easier for this “newbie.”

lexapro and ritalin

Monday, January 31st, 2005

New member very much interested in hearing anyone’s experience with
the above combination. I was prescribed ritalin because I’ve been
(even) more socially avoidant than usual - not out of gut fear but
out of fatigue, or more precisely, reticence. Plus I’ve been
spending way too much time under the covers.
If this has already been addressed, please point me to the prior
posts. Much appreciated. Phil

lexapro side effects

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

Hello all,
This is Martha (the h is silent), I’ve been on lexapro for a year now. I have
gained 40 pounds in this year. I think it might be the meds but it could also
be a combination that I started a new job at the same time which I travel alot.
Has anyone else experienced this. I asked the nurse practioner that subscribed
me lexapro and she said statsitically this doesn’t happen. Right now I am
looking for a new MD and I am starting with another therapist. So, hopefully
soon I can resolve this problem.
thanks,
mce

First dose I noticed an immediate difference

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

Hi all
I was put on Lexapro 10mg on Jan 20th and I noticed an immediate
difference after 2 hours of taking it. My anxiety was totally gone,
and I was able to work without getting stressed out and anxious. Its
my 5th day on it and I did have some trouble sleeping the first few
days but now it seems to be ok. I haven’t noticed any other side
effects at all but then again I am pretty tolerant when it comes to
meds. I don’t know if it has affected my sex drive since I am not
seeing anyone now, but I wasn’t interested in sex much for a long
time lately anyways.
My sister is also on Lexapro, she has been on it for a few months and
it worked for her immediately as well. The only side effect she
experiences is the lack of sex drive. She is not too worried with
that , she would rather be anxiety free anyways.
My doctor said usually if a med works good for one family member then
it will most likely work for other family members. I am very happy
with Lexapro, it has improved my moods, relieved my anxiety and I
feel now that I can face the world without thinking about my anxiety
disorders(post traumatic stress, social anxiety). I hope Lexapro
continues to work for me……I was on Wellbutrin before and it did
nothing for me. I also was on Celexa before which of course is
similiar to Lexapro, it worked but after a while it made me very
hyper………wasn’t able to sit still, restless, and also it spiked
my sex drive up through the roof lol……I have no idea why that
happened, but it did. I had to get off the Celexa because I couldn’t
stand being that hyper. Hopefully the Lexapro won’t do that to me.
So far so good on my 5th day of Lexapro and I can say that I am very
happy with it. It is just about a lifesaver for me, I was very burnt
out before from stress and anxiety. Now, I feel like I have renewed
energy and I am able to be normal again.
Everyone is different and not everyone reacts the same to
medications, so it might not work as fast for anyone else as it did
for some. Hang in there, usually after a week or 2 the side effects
wear off. If one person has bad experiences with a drug, it doesn’t
mean that all will, just depends on the person.

Time to get off Lex and see what happens?

Sunday, January 30th, 2005

For those who remember, I was at 30mg then 20mg and finally 10mg of
Lex where I was feeling best.(Had terrible sides at 30 and 20mg) My
life circumstances have changed for the better and I think it is
time to try to become med free after 5+ years on various ssri’s.
I think I should first taper to 5mg, then after 2 weeks maybe 5mg
every other day and then…..hopefully med free.
Anyone have any other suggestions??
Thanks
Jeff

Ambien

Saturday, January 29th, 2005

Just wanted to state for the record, for accuracy’s sake, that Ambien
(zolpidem) is a NON-BENZODIAZEPINE hypnotic. It is *NOT* chemically related to
the
benzos at all (e.g. Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, etc.)
HOWEVER, it does act on the GABA-benzo receptor complex on the brain and
shares some of the same properties as benzos (e.g. tolerance, dependence, etc.).
It shouldn’t be combined with benzos unless directed by a doctor because of CNS
depression. Also, as a CNS depressant, the manufacturer warns against
prescribing it for patients exhibiting signs of depression. This is why a
consult
with an actual psychiatrist is a good idea, IMHO.
Half-life of Ambien is an average of 2.5 hours which is short, and it has no
active metabolites. A generalized translation: Should be out of your system
quickly, possibly too quickly to keep you asleep the entire night.
Also, Ambien acts quickly, so it should be taken only when bedtime is near.
Normal dosage is 10 mg, but doses can range from 5mg to 40mg, depending on
the patient.
Hope this helps clear up the confusion! Ambien helped me get through the
insomnia of Lexapro, but Restoril (a bona-fide benzo) at the high dosage of 30mg
really did the trick.
Here’s wishing everyone a restful night,
