Celexa v. LexaPro
Hi all, I am new to the group and just read through a bunch of
posts. Glad to be here.
I switched from Celexa to LexaPro about 8 weeks ago. Celexa was
great for me but when I tried to cut back my dose I had several
emotional breakdowns, so my doctor switched me to 10 mg LexaPro
daily and it seems to be working out well. She also is having me
tested for ADHD. Does anyone here know what meds are recommended to
combine for ADHD with LexaPro?
I have noticed some differences. First of all, I have more energy
and don’t find myself having these shuddery yawns several times
throughout the day. I also felt my libido returning. On a different
note, my dreams have been extremely vivid and strange. Somewhat
disturbing too is that I at times had trouble distinguishing between
dream and reality in my memory. Also, I have noticed that after 2
glasses of wine I am *really* ready for bed!

Could be and I hate to burst y’alls bubble
of Celexa and as Lexapro is a new version of Celexa it follows that alot of the
sides are similar.
I had the most vivid dreams while taking Celexa. I really miss that part. No bad
ones. Although some people report very vivid nightmares. I know that I was
worried about having a bad dream as the dreams I was having were so vivid it was
like being there….and not dreaming.

So have the side effects really been noticeably less for all of you
who have tried Celexa and then switched to Lexapro? I could only take
2.5 mg of Celexa and I felt drugged and nauseated. Now my dr gave me
samples of Lexapro. I realize it’s supposed to have even less side
effects but it’s also more concentrated so I’m not going to be able to
break the pill up to a very low dose to see how I react to it and I’m
afraid. I’ve tried Zoloft, Paxil, Serzone, Celexa and now Lexapro.
The first four all made me sick. Serzone was the only one I could
tolerate up until 75 mg and then the same drugged feeling kicked in.
I cannot handle feeling that way for 2 to 4 weeks and just wait for
those effects to disappear. I’d have to quit my job. Charisse

I have always had a bad stomach and more recently I was told I have
food allergies and I suspect I have leaky gut syndrome. I can’t even
drink alcohol anymore without feeling sick from it which is a shame.
Of course my regular dr doesn’t take the allergies or leaky gut thing
seriously and I notice that the higher my stress is or when bad
things happen in my life is when my stomach gets worse. So I think
just being anxious in general contributes to it. I actually have
heard of at least two other people who were horribly sick after
trying anti-depressants. I’m at a loss for what to do now. It seems
like all of them list nausea as the number one side effect. Charisse

Katherine I am sure that the anxiety about taking a drug and possibly
getting side effects doesn’t help but honestly all the drugs I’ve
tried, I felt very positive about because I was taking such tiny
doses! And then whammo -within 3 to 4 hours after taking the med it
hits me like a brick. Serzone was the only one I could tolerate up
until I hit 75 mg and then I had the same nauseous and drugged
feeling. And I wasn’t expecting it. I felt like I had a mushroom
cloud floating over my head and very nauseated. Then as quickly as
it hits, it usually passes. Paxil was the worst for this. I realize
I have a sensitive stomach but one of my friends has a stomach of
steel and she was puking after one dose of Zoloft and had no idea
that this was even a side effect. I think these drugs effect your
mind a lot like LSD or other hallucingenics can and those often make
you nauseous too. So yes I’ve got stomach problems but it’s
definitely the anti-depressants that make me nauseated. I envy
people like you and others who can take these drugs with no nausea.
I could deal with being tired or even having a headache, but not on
the verge of vomiting for 2 to 3 weeks. Everyone’s body responds
differently to the drugs so just because it didn’t make you sick
doesn’t mean it’s not making a lot of other people sick. I have read
up a lot about serotonin and it’s not just in your head, but there is
a lot of serotonin stored in your stomach too. That’s why these
drugs make some feel sick -because they are affecting the serotonin
in your gut. Charisse

Katherine why does it seem like you are arguing with me? I don’t
understand the point of it. I have had two drs tell me that
serotonin resides in your head and your gut -but that the majority of
it is in your digestive system. I agree that a lot of people seem to
have no problems on anti-depressants -however I know just as many
people who have had problems on them. Maybe they don’t all feel
nauseated, but just about every single person has felt at least
something. We can go back and forth quoting studies or internet
research but the truth is that I have been nauseous from every anti-
depressant I have tried and I find it hard to believe that there will
be one miracle drug out there that won’t make me sick. I guess I’ll
just leave it at that and stop looking for support from this list.
Thanks anyway -Charisse
