Thursday Mornin’

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Good Morning All,
I haven’t posted in awhile…I have also been on the ADD group.
So, can you please add me as “Joyce…44…on Lex (20mg) since
July 2003 and Adderall (20mg) since Feb. 2004?
What my family doctor realized was that part of my depression
stems from my previously undiagnosed ADD…
I guess I just have to face the facts that I’m a few chemicals
short of a cocktail! Or as one of my favorite bumper
stickers say, ” I don’t suffer from insanity, I enjoy
every minute of it!” haha
Has anyone out there been on Lex for more than a
year? Has anyone felt like the dose wasn’t
cutting it anymore?
Thank you for all your posts, insights and company!

effects of lexapro

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Im always puzzled when i read about people starting on Lexapro and
the distinct feelings they get. Ive been on it for 7 months now and
I dont seem to be consciously aware of the good it does, until I run
out for 3 or more days. Then it seemslike my whole personality
changes for the worse. I get hateful, and despondent, and can barely
function. After 2 times of this, I try to never run out. But with
Dr.s cancelling and rescheduling appoitments, its not always
something I can help. Is it really necessary for me to go to the
psychologist every two months for refills? All he ever wants to know
is if I have thoughts of hurting myself or anyone else? Is that
common?

Dana…I am fried

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Hi dana:
between the “arrrangements”, legal stuff and generally doing the
document cleanup, I am fried from the neck up and finally running
out of gas! Damn this over 50 stuff!!!
Forgot to tell you. When I traveled to Fla, a friend with 14 barzoi
(Russian Wolfhounds) took care of my beasts. She said Skittles was a
gem….must have been a different Skittles! A barzoi is a huge dog
(about Greyhound size and apparently my little guys had a blast with
them. The barzois had no idea what to make of my little creatures so
everyone had a good time….glad I missed it! had to be a major
Circus!
Any Skittles has returned to his good ole self….”picking and
teasing the poor human….ME!
As far as treating my self…I like toys so when the lease on my
Accord came up…I bought a new a4 Audi….Major toy! need about 4
days of sleep to catch up.
As an FYI, still nothing being taken but the Valium and Vitamins.
Work is downhill and I am getting that Hacking cough virus
back….still no need think think about Lex or any other SSRI for me
though. I think they actually made me stronger!!! There is some sort
of major news story breaking about 11 million kids on ssri’s and the
dangers that these drugs can present with young adults ( I have
always thought not enough testing was done on any of them!)…I am
not doewn on them as much as I am suspicious of the drug companies a
sixties person )
Again, if we need meds, we should take them!

Scientific American Magazine

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Hi All ~ ~ At the pdoc’s today and I pulled up the September 2003
issue of Scientific American and it’s title is “Better Brains”. It
goes indepth into alot of research and treatment plans all about
panic, anxiety, the brain and neurons and the latest treatments, like
the Vagus Stimulator which I found very interesting. It is now
approved for people who have seizure disorder and is currently under
study for depression and anxiety.
They use a pacemaker and wrap a wire around the Vagus nerve that goes
up into your brain and they are essentially changing the frequency of
your electrical energy in the brain. They can change the frequency
by a monitor outside the pacemaker, just like a heart pacemaker.
U can order a copy $10.00 (includes postage and handling) to
Scientific American, Dept BBS03, 415 Madison Avenue, New York NY
10017-1111. Or you can call them for it at 1-212-451-8890.
I sat glued to my seat in the waiting room reading this. It is very
thick and has a ton of info in there that all of us could benefit
from. Or go to your local library and see if you could read it
there.

Hi, Thea Here

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

I wonder if any of my messages are coming through?
I’m getting all of yours.
Jacquie, I see you’re also from Hawaii. Which island?
I’m on Maui, and we’re having tons of rain today, and for the past few.
The kids are bored stiff–LOL for not only is it raining but it’s also spring
break.
I started Lexapro last Thursday.
When I first took a tablet, it felt as if I’d eaten a few magic mushrooms. I got
almost a psychedelic effect, that was kind of neat, and that was only on half a
tablet.
My dreams that night were interesting too: all about problem solving with lots
of conflict, though not in a nightmare sense.
Over the past few days, I still notice the psychedelic effect, though the dreams
are less conflicted, though still about problem solving in one form or another.
All the SSRI’s I’ve ever taken have some effect on my dreams and some special
feel on ingestion.
ANyone else notice that?

Want to keep track of each person’s info and screen name?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

Just a thought. We could all up date a list of names/info/problems for each
member here who posts, kind of a way for all of us to get to know each other.
For example, my info would be:
Nelson/Charlottesville, Virginia/OCD/screen name: OCD24hours2aol.com

Absorption Question

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Hi,
My question is about the absorption characteristics of Lexapro. I
take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at night. If I switch to taking
20mg in the morning does anyone know if there would be any less of
the medication taken up into my system by just taking the full dose
all at once?
Thanks,
Mike
