“crashing”

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

Hi,
I have been reading the posts in this group since I started on
Lexapro in March (10 mg for depression and mild anxiety). I had
been feeling great until the past few weeks. I have more negative
feelings, more anxiety and have been crying nearly every day for the
past week. Did anyone else experience this change? I am supposed
to up to 20mg (and am hoping the side effects do not get worse).
Has anyone been prescribed at 15? This is the first time I have
ever been on an SSRI. I fear I don’t know what “normal feelings” are
anymore. Does anyone else feel like this?
Thanks,
Lauren, a newbie

Interesting website

Don’t know if anyone’s seen this - it’s a pretty cool website if
you’re looking for other people on Lexapro. Tons of testimonials -
both good and bad of course. Also lots of diaries, where people
tell you day by day how they’re feeling, what the side effects are
etc. I found it pretty useful being new to the drug. It’s nice to read
other people’s first few days of side effects and then watch it turn
around in a week or two. Hopefully that will be my story too!
Hope this helps.

Lexapro has been a lifesaver

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

For me Lexapro has been a lifesaver. I was anxious before I started
taking it for depression but now I feel wonderful.
I started taking it in February. Now for the first time in my life I
feel good about myself. I don’t know if it works for depression
or not but I know it works for anxiety.
I’m 55 years old and for the first time in my life I feel I am
able to maintain.
I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful medication.

Celexa?

Friday, June 24th, 2005

I know this is a Lexapro list but none of the Celexa lists are active.
I was given Celexa to try this past weekend. In the past I have had
bad reactions to Zoloft and Paxil -both made me extremely nauseated
and Paxil made me feel like I had been slipped acid. I did okay with
Serzone until I got to a higher dose and it made me sick to my stomach
and light headed/drugged feeling. So now they are having me try
Celexa. I took 2 mg Sunday and today and I am still getting that
nauseous light headed feeling about 3 hours after I take it. Does
this mean it’s working? I don’t see how I could ever go up to 5 or 10
mg like my dr wants me to if I feel this way on 2 mg. Advice from any
previous Celexa users would be great! I know it’s similar to Lexapro.
I’m not sure why the dr didn’t give me Lexapro except maybe because I
suffer from panic disorders and I’m so sensitive to strong meds
anyway. Thanks -Charisse

weigh gain

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

One other thing I found out about SSR Drugs. When you get off of
them your metabolism has drop to a very slow stage until meds get
out of your system. So in mean time you gain some weight.

Is this a good idea?

My doc prescribed Lexapro for me last week - I started taking it
on Friday. I am sooo tired and feeling quite weird. I know this is
probably only to start with and will probably wear off, but when I
read everyone’s messages about feeling strange, weight gain,
withdrawal I can’t help wondering if I should just stop now.
Maybe there’s another way around this depression, maybe if I
just excercise and eat right and stay in therapy I can beat
this…maybe I can’t. I don’ t know what to do…
I was on effexor for a couple of years when I was younger and
suffered a lot with the electric shock feelings - I swore I’d never
go on meds again, but when things seem bleak it looks like the
answer, but now I’m scared of the meds.
any advice - anyone?!

Getting off meds…

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

I don’t know if you want me in your group because I had just got off
Lexapro 20mg. Wellbrutin 75mg. It’s been ruff getting off. I was
having lots of side effects on the medicines. I didn’t feel good on
them any way. I’ve been on them for about 5 years now. Zoloft,
Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbrutin. Started on them for hormone imbalance,
you know that peri-mental pasal. You know that 40 stuff!!

Lexapro & OCD

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

I just completed a one month taper off Effexor, which I took for six
months. For me, Effexor helped a bit with depresion but not with OCD,
so after a few med-free weeks, I’ll be starting Lexapro. I’m hoping
to hear from listers with OCD how Lexapro affected their illness.
This is my first post to the group, after having listened in for a
few weeks. I’m impressed, thusfar, by a degree of mature, informed,
and heartfelt contributions here that I felt were not sustained on
the other groups I’ve belonged to. Serious depression and OCD have
been a life long experience for me, an experience from which I’ve
come to know that the best healer is a wounded healer. Illness is one
path of enlightenment. I appreciate the mindfulness of this group!

Lexapro and Feeling light headed and dizzy when moving head

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Hi,
Haven’t been on lexapro that long, Dr. started me off slow, 5mgs.
first week, then up to 10. Felt ok. Then after several weeks, very
tired, sluggish, light headed and dizzy.
Told Dr. I want off the lexapro. she put me back on 5mgs. until I see
her in 2 weeks. anyone ever have these side effects?
I was on Paxil serveral years ago, that to me was a wonder drug. Felt
better, no anxiety or depression. Only side effect on paxil was
weight gain.
Any feed back would be appreciated.
