New to group…questions

Monday, February 27th, 2006

I have been on effexor for 10 years and lately have been having lots
of anxiety. My doctor wants me to take kolonopin - which I am
reluctant to do. I have heard that lexapro is helpful with anxiety
symptoms and would like to ask if any of you have experience with how
lexapro has helped in this area. Thanks for any information.

Dosing……10mg, 20mg, 30mg, and now 40mg!!!!!

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

I have been taking Lex for over two years, I started with the usual
dose of 10mg, but like all antidepressants I have taken that was not
enough. I went to 20, then 30, and now my doctor wants to go to 40mg a
day, does anyone out there take that much??? My Psychiatrist is also
recommending me to another doc, one who is so far taking three months
to get an appt. but is said to be the best of the best. I want to know
if anyone out there has been in my shoes. What other medications work
with Lex. I also am thinking about trying Cymbalta, but I wonder how
effective it is since its new. Any information will greatly be
appreciated.

Lexapro not working

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Hi everyone. I’ve been on lexapro for about it year and it worked
very well. Lately I’ve notice that it doesnt seem to be working. I
dont have the energy from it like I use to and seem to get tired in
the middle of the day again. I havent felt like doing to much either
like exercising and getting out.
Did any of you all have this experience? Does the medication just
stop working after a while? If so, what is the next best thing to
do? Should I change to another medication or combine another with the
lexapro. I’m taking 20mgs and I’m not sure if one can take more.
Thanks for the feed back.
tks

Dear Margaret,
I am on a long acting benzo already ( in fact, it is a sleeping pill
benzo) I take it in the day even and only sort of feel the effects. It is
one at night and one in the day. I guess I could try 2 at night but I
really need the one in the day ..so it is a problem of running out. and
because I go to a county clinic they are not going to just give me more.

Alison,
That is a tough situation. Don’t you just love the healthcare system???
You need to tell your health care provider to increase the dosage. They
shouldn’t have any problem with that. Tell them how terrible you feel. It is
their
responsibility to figure out why this is happening and to help you. Nobody
should have to live with constant anxiety in this day and age with all the meds
available. Be firm and keep us posted.
