I would like to pipe in as a new member and new user of Lexapro. I’ve been
on it for 1 week as of today. I love the emotional improvements, hate the
physical side effects, but I’m willing to ride it out to see if I can adjust.
I am a little scared by the negatives, and would love to hear any
encouraging stories out there.
Thanks!
Kristen
Kristen,
What negative symptoms are you experiencing? Whatever they are, I’m
confident they will go away after a few weeks, when your body become adjusted.
Try to stick with it if you feel it’s working for you, I think you’ll find it
worthwhile.

Good vs Bad on Lex

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

My honest opinion is that it is nice to hear the encouraging stories
but it is also great to hear about the negative side of this
medication as well. I hear you. You are new. But what if down the
road - a month or so from now, you start to gain unexplained weight,
get dizzy etc., wouldn’t you want to know about the negatives that
others on Lex have experienced? One never knows do one. If we only
hear the good side of the story, then this forum is not of any use to
those who are taking Lex with negative side effects. In other words,
should there be two forums? One forum for people who are negative on
Lex and one forum for positive people? That would not make any sense.
I think that’s what this forum is all about. My two cents.

getting of LEX… (question and thoughts..)

Monday, March 27th, 2006

hello everyone :) I am new to the list and although I do not take Lex, I do know
someone very close whom does take it and wants to get off of it.
Based on everything that I have read and been told, its obvious that
its a very difficult task to get off this drug once you been taking
it for a long time.
I was wondering if you can trick the brain and body??
Let me explain what I mean by that…
For example: If you take 10 mg….and in order to get off the drug
the doctor told you to take 5 mg for a month and then 2.5 mg for
another month…..is this easy task to do??
I already know that is not, since the person close to me is havcing
very difficult taks achiving this goal.
She claims that by the 5 th day…it becomes unbarable (the
dizzines, the shocks, etc…)…which causes driving very dangerous.
I was wondering, Why not take 5 mg for 5 days…and then trick the
brain and take 7.5 mg by breaking the cycle…then going back to
taking the 5 mg for another 5 days??? By repeating this cycle, it
may help ease some of the pain and side effect problems. Ofcouse
this may actually not be a good idea and may very well defeat the
whole purpose of what one is trying to achieve. Personally, I
rather just suffer for a month or two and be done with it…rather
than let it drag for a longer time period by lessening the pain, but
keeping it for a longer time period.
Has anyone tried this method in the past ??? Does it help or make
things worse?? Does it screw up the entire process when you take
that sudden higher dose??
***I am no expert and I do not know how it feels since I dont take
the drug, but I really want my girl friend to get off from it as
painlessly as possible and as quickly as possible. Its a horrible
drug based on everything I have been told and read. It seems to me
that although the drug seems to work well, it seems to have the
worst side effects and causes a major dependancy (addition if you
wanna call it).

getting off 10mg lexapro

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

missed a doage because of problems at the pharamacy… and this is what
scares me……
I haven’t gone back to read through the lists posts… but I wanted to
see if anyone has gotten off of it successfuly….?
I had a question about pregnancy and lexapro… although I’m not

Water Retention

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Hello Everyone. Once again I am back to ask another question. Been
on
Lex less than a month. Started at 2.5mg, increased to 5mg and 5 days
ago increased again to 7.5mg. The day after the increase to 7.5 I
started retaining an unbelievable amount of water and after only 5
days
I’m up 10 pounds, obviously all water. I’ve tried my normal means of
shedding excess water by drinking a cup of tea and eating lots of
celery, cucumbers and watermelon, and in the past that took care of
it
within 8 hours or so. Now the WATER WON’T BUDGE. Doc went on
unexpected early maternity leave and her replacement is not in place
yet, so I’m on my own for the time being. I’m not sure if I should
decrease back to 5mg and hope it goes away or stick it out with the
7.5mg, give my body time to adjust to the higher dose and be
MISERABLE
in the meantime. I have carpal tunnel and heel spurs which are both
flared up beyond belief as a result of excess weight and fluid.
Advice
from those of you with experience in these matters will be GREATLY
appreciated!!

Are they the best?

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

I know that my article is not related to this group ,but it might be
useful. PLEASE read it.
===================================================
Are they the best?
If Islam is the one true religion and all good Muslims will be rewarded in
Paradise, then where does that leave the followers of other religions? Will
they go to Hell because they are practicing the wrong religion? What
would happen to a really great man who was born in a very Catholic country
the Quran gives a clear answer in the following verses that mean
:
1- {
Surely Allah does not do injustice to the weight of an atom, and if it is a
good deed He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.}*
(An-Nisaa 4:40)
2- *{These are the communications of Allah which We recite to you with
truth, and Allah does not desire any injustice to the creatures.}* (Aal
`Imran 3:108)
3- *{Then how will it be when We shall gather them together on a day about
which there is no doubt, and every soul shall be fully paid what it has
earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly?}*( Aal `Imran 3: 25)
4- *{Surely We have revealed to you the Book with the truth for the sake of
men; so whoever follows the right way, it is for his own soul and whoever
errs, he errs only to its detriment; and you are not a custodian over
them.}* (Az-Zumar 39:41)
5- *{Whoever goes aright, for his own soul does he go aright; and whoever
goes astray, to its detriment only does he go astray: nor can the bearer of
a burden bear the burden of another, nor do We chastise until We raise a
messenger.}* (Al-Israa 17:15
)
From the foregoing, we can understand the following about Divine Judgment:
God does not do the least bit of injustice to anyone. He is All-Merciful
and so He doubles the reward of those who do good, out of the bounty of His
mercy.
The duty of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)or of those who
follow in his footstepsis to invite people to the true guidance of God
revealed to the Prophet. Anyone who follows that guidance benefits himself
or herself; and anyone who rejects that guidance harms himself or herself.
No one can take away the reward of another; nor can a person bear the
punishment due to another. And there is no question of God punishing
anybody without first sending a warner to them: That is to say, it is only
after people have been informed of the true guidance and they have
knowingly rejected it, that they are held accountable and judged to be
deserving of punishment.
Unlike Christianity, Islam emphasizes personal responsibility and
accountability. In other words, the core of Islamic ethics is justice and
freedom of choice. That is why the doctrine of vicarious atonement is
abhorrent to Islam; and for the same reason sinners cannot be saved by
punishing the innocent.
From the Islamic point of view, the judgment of an action is dependent,
first and foremost, upon the motive derived from the faith of the person.
Only God can be the True Judge of our actions, as other humans cannot know
the real motive and the impelling faith or philosophy behind it. Suppose a
Catholic heard the message of Islam, but did not care to examine it even
when he was aware of the chance of it being the truth: he is certainly
guilty of rejecting the Truth. The same is true of an atheist or anybody
else. For that reason, such people are held accountable for their actions
based on the questionable beliefs they hold.
But imagine someone in a remote area (or anywhere) who knows nothing of
Islam: He cannot be held accountable for not following Islam. God will
judge him by the standard of his conscience or of whatever morality he has
imbibed from his native religion or culture. Because there cannot be
injustice in the ultimate judgment of God. And for us humans, it is
basically a question of our sincerity in seeking the truth and following it
