question from a newbie
Can I ask what kind of side effects everyone has experienced with Lexapro?
I have been on it a week and I have had a little sleepiness so I take the
med before bed. I don’t have much of an appetite until the afternoon, some
nausea, diarrhea one day and yawning even if I am not tired. Thanks in
advance for your replies.

Chris -
I take mine before bed, too. I have had some trouble sleeping the last
couple of nights, but, there are a lot of stresses in my life right now, so, I
am
not going to automatically blame the medication for that one. Time will
tell.
I notice a lack of appetite, also, then, I get really hungry, start to eat,
and seem to have not much desire to continue eating. Also, slight headaches,
which I take Ibuprofen for.
Nothing really earthshaking. I think these symptoms will go away as my
brain adjusts. It doesn’t change the functioning of my life, so, I am just
going
with it….
On the plus side, when I do wake up, I am ready to get going. Wow. Amazing
for me….

Hi Chris! I am on day 7 with Lexapro. The first day it made me feel
weird…………..very tired, didn’t want to drive, ears popped, didn’t eat
much,
just felt strange. But then every day I felt more normal, but I still yawn a
lot. I take mine in the mornings and I have a very hard time waking up in the
mornings, but I always have. I am not a morning person……..I teach piano so
my day really begins about 12:30 until 8:30 teaching. But I have felt better
and by reading everything on this site, it encourages you daily! Take care,

Do any of you take the pill with or without food, and if you take it with food,
what type of food do yout ake it with? I dont eat breakfast but I plan to take
it with some kind of food in the morning. I also take Alprazolam, one in the
morning, late afternoon and before bed, they say at the drs I can take both
meds. Do you think I should take the Alprazolam before the Lex, maybe wait 30
mins.? Larissa

I’ve taken both Lex. and Alprazolam on an empty stomach with absolutely no
nausea, burning etc.. My doc recently gave me a few Alprazolam .5 mg..to
take only in cases of severe anxiety. I wish I could take it every day. It
really helps a lot. It makes me feel more “normal”

It makes me feel normal too. But I still am battling the agoraphobia and Im
hoping the lex will help me with this. Larissa

Hi there! I am on day 8 of Lexapro and was doing quite well. Today out of
the clear blue, I started feeling bad……..I turned around and came home from
driving to the mall. I was really tired, got in bed and my heart was beating
pretty fast. I just felt weird…….I don’t even know what a panic attack
feels like but it wasn’t that severe……..I just don’t know what it was. I
was really disappointed that that happened to me today, I was doing so well.
Does anyone have any thoughts of what that was? Thanks, Susan

When I first started on Lexapro I was extremely anxious, nauseous, had
headaches, shaking, couldn’t sleep, etc. These things lasted for
about 2 weeks and then I slowly started to feel better. However,
after about 2 months my anxiety returned. The doctor increased my
dosage and I have been great ever since. It has been 6 months and I
can honestly say that Lexapro saved my life. Hang in there.

I’m relaxed on Lex and maybe a bit drowsy. I take it at night.
