Congratulations on the new grandbaby!
I think that is is normal for us to worry about the side effects of Lexapro,
because a lot of us are taking this for anxiety, and what we are having is
anxiety about our anxiety med…:).
When you are ready, you will know. I figured I had two choices….take the
med, or flush it down the toilet. Since I wouldn’t flush, I figured my
subconscious wanted me to take it..

I heard a while back, not
on here, that Lexapro causes weight gain, have you ever heard that? Well, I
am going to teach my piano lessons for the next 8 hours.
Think Positive, Susan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have heard that
people lose weight on it, too. And, the same applies to the sexual side
effects…if I just THINK I will gain weight on a drug, I can make that
happen…..
You are a Goddess teaching piano for 8 hours. Do you take breaks??? Oh My
Gosh. I would freaking die…..Maybe when the Lex kicks in, I can handle
more. But, then, I would have to bellydance less, and that wouldn’t be as much
fun…

Susans Pharmacist

My pharmacist told me that 10 mg. of lexapro was the minimum does,
not to cut it in half.
I have no idea why he would say that. There is also liquid Lexapro, I
believe, and you can take an even smaller dose with that. Maybe he just
doesn’t
know any better. They are little buggers to cut…they crumble easily.
Someone suggested a pill cutter, but, I have yet to get that. I only have 2
days
left of 5 mg. before I go to 10 mg., anyway.

Numb Feelings…Mary

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Hi Mary -
I understand the numbing out of feelings you are describing…I got that way
on Paxil, like I just could care less about anything, good or bad. But, I
suspect that I was on a dose that was higher than I needed. At the time, my
solution was to get off the drug completely. I may not have had to do that if
I had just cut my dose to 10 mg. or so.
Prozac was another story all together - on that medication, I had absolutely
no conscience, or sense of right or wrong, and I did whatever I wanted,
which, included some behavior I regret.
One thing I truly missed being off the Paxil was not worrying. I worry so
much about EVERYTHING. And, although my life is good, I have 6 grown
children, and a husband, not to mention the 3 grandkids, who depend on me to
hold
this crazy family together. You think that after the kids grow up, your
problems will be over. The problems just get bigger…lol. And, like most
families, we have some craziness going on…one crisis to the next. Just day
to
day living can take its toll. Anyway, the point I am taking a long time to get
to, is, that, I too, would trade off a bit of numbed feelings for less
anxiety and worry. I won’t miss the worry a bit.

Day 5…..

I slept a lot the first week and found it hard to get up in the
morning.
Last night, Day 5….I did have a hard time sleeping, and then couldn’t wake
up…I also had a headache, but, I took some Ibuprofen, and that went away.
I feel fine now. I guess there will be good days, and not so good days. I
may have taken a larger half of a pill, or something, so, I had a bit more in
my system.

Christie

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Hi Florie,
Just wanted to say it takes a few weeks or more for your body to fully adjust to
the medication. Lexapro has been a godsend for me. I’ve been taking it for
several years now (at a lower dose now). I had depression since I was a child.
I had a major depression at 8 years old after my family and I made a major move.
I also had major depression while going through a divorce from my first husband
and after my father died. It’s helped me feel “normal” and live a pretty normal
life, (except for some PMDD). Be patient and give your body some time to
adjust. I have also previously taken Wellbutrin and could not tolerate it.
Lexapro has been different and positive for me.

Christie, I thought Lexapro has only been available since lke 2001? Larissa

getting of of lexapro

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

I have been taking lexapro for a couple of years and before that
celexa. I was wondering has anyone tried to stop taking it? My dr. put
me down to 10mg and said after a week go down to every other day and
slowly taper off. I have not taken any for a week but I do not feel
right, dizzy and light headed, want to know if anyone has any advice.

Update - Day 8

I don’t know who wrote me that note??? susan

Hi, I’m new!

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Hello :o)
I’m 31, married, mother of 2.
I’ve taken Celexa for about 5-6 weeks; today I was given a 1 month
sample pack of Lexapro.
I’ve been reading some of the other people’s experiences.
On the celexa I’ve been tired, increased sweating (I know it’s
August!) and loss of orgasm.
I guess all these are normal. I wonder if these meds are ‘making’ me
lazy or if I’m just a lazy person with something to blame it on.
Any thoughts?
I’m not really sure if I’ve seen results with the Celexa yet. I’ve
been taking the 20mg. And now the 10mg Lexapro.
Thanks,
Cyn.

Mary’s Suggestion

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

That is a good idea, to put the person’s name on the post, but, I am also
helped by reading other people’s posts to each other…so, I would probably open
them anyway. Maybe changing the subject line would help.
It is difficult to please all the people, all the time. When I address a
post to Sue C, or to Mary, or to Annie, etc. I also figure that everyone will
read it, and perhaps there is something in there that will benefit them also.
Who knows what little word or sentence can spark something in us? But,
anyway, if we do change the subject line, perhaps that would help….
