Just started Lexapro today; am TERRIFIED of potential for weight gai
Hi…I’m a 45-year-old married female with two children. Went back to
my psychopharmacologist today after taking a prolonged break (too
many medications that made me worse, including Prozac, and a
Topamax/Abilify cocktail for Bipolar II). I had been on Celexa for a
number of years, initially highly successful, but then began to
bottom out on me 1.5 years or so into it, with tremendous weight gain.
My doctor, knowing how terrified I am to gain weight — I’ve lost 24
pounds with Weight Watchers over the past six months, with about 36
to go — went over alternatives, including Lexapro, as those with
little effect on weight. I began this morning at 5 mg, to be upped to
10 in a week. Of course, the moment I came home I went online, and
what did I find? A staggeringly high number of people — many of whom
exercised religiously (unlike me) and watched their diet, only to
gain massive amounts of weight on Lexapro. On the flipside, there was
a miniscule number of people reporting weight loss (and mainly those
just beginning, which is not unusual), and as small an amount of
those reporting stability.
Needless to say, I am terrified, and need some hand-holding. Would
anyone care to share their weight experiences with Lexapro?

I’d lost weight at my WW tonight, so you can lose on Lexapro.
