Hi all,
I just joined this group and wanted to chime in on the “Dreams”
thread, but first I wanted to post a brief introduction. I’ve been on
Lexapro since late September 2004 — started at 10 mg, increased to 15
mg fairly quickly, and then to 20 mg, where I’ve been for the better
part of this year. I noticed a definite difference in my moods after
going from zero to 10 mg than I did going from 10 to 15 or 15 to 20,
but it does seem to help me a bit. I was recently also started on
Remeron as a second A/D at bedtime (also acts as a sleep aid) — I was
started on 15 mg, but my psychiatrist upped it to 30 mg on my last
visit because — oddly — this medication causes more drowsiness and
lethargy on the lower dose than it does on the increased dose (I’m
hyper-sensitive to any meds that have drowsiness as a side-effect; I
could use the Remeron at 9 p.m. and still feel the effects of it at
the end of the next workday). I was started on Lexapro after being
admitted to the hospital last year on the advice of my therapist (she
was the former head social worker of the inpatient unit where I was
admitted, and she had actually driven me to the hospital after I made
some statements in our normal session that troubled her enough to take
action). At the time I was already using Clonazepam (.5 mg daily –
still on that dose) for my anxiety, but had only taken it for two
days. My psychiatrist also worked in the unit so she was assigned to
work with me while I was an inpatient. In addition to the Lexapro,
she also put me on 25 mg Seroquel for help with sleep, but made me
feel nearly as wrecked as the Remeron (I fell asleep at my desk at
least three times after going back to work). The Lexapro does seem to
make a bit of a difference, as I said, but when I’m “situationally”
depressed and anxious about something, my symptoms are still more
severe than I would have expected them to be.
I wanted to comment on the Dreams thread as well. For *months* now
I’ve been having very VERY vivid dreams nearly every night. Some
nights the dreams follow a logical sequence and some nights they’re
just random flashes and images — but they’re all so vivid and clear.
I distinctly remember them beginning in early June — or just before
– when I was home recovering from a serious car accident (I was out
of work for four months). Now that I think about it, I recall that I
had a few of those vivid dreams during my three weeks in hospital and
inpatient rehab as well, but they occur with a frequency that’s almost
nightly. Some are very disturbing, and some are just a reflection of
what’s happening in my life, but the vividness of the dreams are what
make them stand out for me, since I’ve always dreamed, but never
remembered them as clearly as I do now. I would have never suspected
that the Lexapro might be the underlying factor, but it does make
sense. When the dreams started, I had only been on the increased 20
mg dose for a couple of months. I don’t recall having the dreams like
that when I first started on the med, but I almost *expect* it now
when I get ready for bed at night. It’s…odd.
It’s good to be here. I look forward to hearing about your
experiences with this and other meds.
Take care,
Christine
