Friday, September 29th, 2006

I find that it helps me greatly, if I do not take it, I get Very anxious
and cannot not sleep and a total mess. Out of all the medication I have

Lexapro Experience

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Unfortanately, it’s trial and error and a lot of patience when trying
any medication…especially antidepressants. I’ve been on several
different ones for months at a time and although I never experienced
withdrawl, weight gain, or increased panic…I experienced nothing
with any of them(which to me is the same thing) and quit taking them
altogether until Lexapro. I did experience side effects on lexapro
but carried on from 10 to 20mgs because the benefits (much less
anxiety and fewer panic attacks in beginning) far outweighed the
discomforts. It’s been a little over three months and side
effects, for the most part are completely gone. On occasion, I might
experience something, headache - slight nausea - tiredness but
nothing compared to what I had prior to taking it (rages, not getting
out of bed, crying at the drop of a hat, etc.). Everybody
metabolizes drugs differently and brain chemistry is different in all
as well. No one can say that one medication is going to work for
everyone in the same way, or at all for that matter. It’s a personal
experience and we’re the only ones who can have them. My depression
is completely gone - a first for any medication and a first
in years…anxiety is leveled - stopped taking 9-14mg of xanax and am
on a PRN basis now, which I never thought could happen without
withdrawl. Is this going to happen to everyone…absolutely NOT.
Trial and Error and Patience are key in finding right
doctor/medication for you.
Good Luck and don’t give up!
p.s. reading the inserts is just smart research along with other
“reliable” readings on any medications, asking doctors ?s, talking
with others who’ve taken it…however, I try not to read too much or
it will override whatever “good” it might do by scaring me into
paying too much attention to the “possible” SE and not enough to the
benefits, therefore, I won’t even bother taking it and look what I’d
be missing out on…being happy - what a concept ;o)

hi all on weight gain /added anxiety on lex/alcohol consumption

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

so sorry I have not been onlately.my name is alison and i have
actualy been a part of this group for over a year on ad off . i take
lex..for gad and panic disorder and mild agoraphobia. I have been on
it a year but just under a therpapudic dose. last two weeks i wet up
to a thrpaudic dosage of 10 mg
SO whover mentined a friend with increased anxiety from lex. ME TOO.
it is terribel i am only sleepign 2 hours a night. i amvery edgy..and
i have more GAD it seems on this drug.
as far as weight gain. I do walk 2 miles every other day and my
wieght has remained the same throughout a year though i dunno now
that I am on a bit of a higher dosage. i think all meds effect people
different. I also think the lex causes some fatigue so that coudl
accont for the wieght thing. I also crave sweets and I NEVER eat
sweets.
anyhow, does anyone know why there is a common issue of weight gain
with SSRI drugs. maybe its not that
it changes metabolism but instead maybe depression is lifted or
anxiety decreased
so people go back to eating
they have not been ..or maybe it
creates more fatigue so less activity is engaged in and for soem it
may effect metabolism. sure. I am personally terrified of gaining
weight. i can nto afford to gain even a lb as I am short and a little
goes a long way.
how long did it take for any of you to notice
a weight gain issue ( for those that have)
also on the alchohol issue YESits a no no i tried it and threw up at
a wedding. i did not realize the effect lex would have on my ability
to be a glutton with champagne it was soo embrrassing. I seem to be
able t drink one or 2 beers though. you adjust over time and just
have to reallybe aware the lex increases effects of alcohol. be sire
to eat when drinking if you are going to try it
hugs and cheers to everyone .
alison
ps so sorry for lots of typos/errors. i think lex or my anxiety or
soemthign else is messing with my typing for the last year . did nto
used to make all manner of errors liek this. hope you can bear with me

Lexapro/Antidepressants and weight gain

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

My experience with antidepressants and weight gain is I tend to eat
more and exercize less when the’re “working.” If I gain weight it’s
because I’m eating the “wrong” things too but enjoying them
anyway…sweet things taste a lot better to me on antidepressant too.
Weight gain was not a side effect in insert I read with those taking
the medication vs those who were on placebos. Not drinking on lexapro
is a big no no with Lexapro in so far as insert reads and bottle
warning. So…I’d make a diary of what food intake is and what
exercize (if any) is being done as well. Not happy? See doc…

Adding Wellbutrin to Lexapro to combat side effects?

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I was on Paxil for 7 years and slowly gained 15 lbs. I came off, and
lost it all in 4 months, again sort of slowly. Sex drive was back
too. But depression and anxiety became a problem again, so I decided
to try Lexapro. Good results for depression and anxiety, but again,
right back to 15-20 lbs. weight gain and decreased sex drive.
I heard about Wellbutrin, so I quit Lexapro and tried that. Well, it
was terrible. So now I feel like I need an SSRI and Lexapro works
well, but I want some help combatting the weight gain and sexual
side effects, in that order.
If I take the Wellbutrin with the Lexapro–will that help? What
about the Omega 3 and Vitamin E pills–has anyone done that?
I realize that I must eat better and excercise more. But when you
change nothing and gain weight and it goes right along with the
meds, you know they are contributing. I just want a little boost to
combat these side effects.
Anyone had success combatting weight gain on Lexapro by adding
Wellbutrin?
Thanks
