Lexapro vs Cymbalta

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

My doctor has had me on Cymbalta for the past year for Depression. I
was advised to take it in the am. However, my Axiety and frustrations
at work are getting worse. It could be “job burn out too”. I saw the
Dr. about 1 1/2 weeks ago.I told him the anxiety is much worse during
the day. He started me on 10mg of Lex.. ea day. I learned that Dep &
Anx go together sometimes. So far I seem to get sleepy but I also cut
down on the caffine intake. I really hope the Lex.. helps w/the
anxiety–I have a really stressful job. Has Lexapro helped anyone with
Anxiety??

Need feedback, please!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Happy New Year, everyone! I am a new member in need of some feedback.
I was prescribed Zoloft 50 mg for PMDD. I took one pill only and I
thought I was going to die! The side effects were horrendous, from a
panic attack, tremors to vomiting etc. My doc switched me to Lexapro 10
mg and told me to take it only 5-7 days before my period starts.
Honestly, I am scared to death to take Lexapro in fear of getting
horrible side effects again. Can anyone share their experiences with me
as far as the side effects go? I know that everyone is different and
everyone reacts differently. I have read hundreds of pages on Internet
about Lexapro and really no one had anything good to say about it. Is
it that bad? Also, I am a little bit surprised to be told by the doc to
take Lexapro only one week in a month. Is this normal? Please respond.

My son.

Hi, my name is Tricia and my 13 year old son has been on Lexapro for
awhile now. He also takes a few more medications for mental disorders
that he suffers from. I know that these medications help him but I am
concerned about the long term effect that lexapro and these other meds
might have on my son. He goes through mood swings and I can’t say that
this has anything to do with the meds but he can go from extremely high
to suicidal low in a blink of an eye. He see’s a psychiatrist and I am
some what satisfied, I just wish I knew more. I find myself reading
anything I can get my hands on about the meds and conditions he has
been given. I would appreciate any info anyone could give. Thank you.

New Member; have questions about Lexapro?

Monday, May 28th, 2007

I was just prescribed Lexapro 10mg by my general doctor for
Depression. I have read some posts here about weight gain and being
tired, UG?
I am depressed, tired, apathetic but do not have anxiety, obessive
compulsiveness or any paranoid thoughts. I am sleeping ok…
What I am concerned about is that I am over weight and very tired most
of the time; will this medication just make me more tired and fat?
I have not started to take the medication yet.

substance abuse?

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I’d like to see if anyone had problems with alcohol or drugs prior to
taking lexapro.
I’ve gotten in trouble with 2 dui’s and made the efforts to stop
drinking. I realized that there was a problem and that I needed to
have my mental health checked out.
I’ve been sober for 4 months now, I feel better but lexapro seems to be
dragging me down. I’m so tired during the day, loss of ambition and
laziness. I mentioned this to my doctor and her response was “so does
depression.”
Has anyone tried another ssri or antidepressant - something that is not
so sluggish on the body?
Thanks,
Manoj.

I took Lexapro for 1st time yesterday and I had a CRAZY reaction…

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

The Dr gave me several weeks of samples and told me to go and take the
1st pill with lunch and to come back in 2 weeks. I took it around 1:30
yesterday afternoon and within a few hours started feeling like I’d
taken X. By the time I was home my jaws were clenching, I was sweating
like I did back in the days of x - The thing is, I didn’t tell my
husband because he doesn’t want me to take anything for depression
because he thinks it’s a cop out. I ended up making him hug me a lot
and he was wondering why I was being so nice - (it’s not what I
normally do)I went to bed around 12:30 PM and woke up at 3:30 vomiting
and had diarriah.
I called the Dr today and he told me not to take it again and we
rescheduled.
What do you think about my reaction - is this common?

lexapro and melatonin

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

do most people here take lexapro during the morning? I’ve read a lot
about people becoming lazy on lexapro, I hope that this isn’t true.
Although, I do feel like I’m showing signs of it.
does anyone happen to take melatonin in the evening during bedtime?

2nd week - 10mg

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

hello group,
i wanted to join the group to share my experiences and ask questions
about this curing drug.
the first couple of days i noticed a zapping overload sensation a
couple times, but hasn’t occured since. i’ve noticed some of the
changes while having been on it over the last week.
but, i was now worried about what i’ve done to my receptors that have
been blocked. does anyone know how the transition is when coming off
of lexapro?
thanks,
manoj

Experiences please

I have been taking Lex for 4 months. I am sooo tired all the time. I
have been thinking about stopping but was told on another group I
can’t “just stop”. I tried cutting down to a half dose and that ruined
me. I was taking at night but the next day after I get the kids off to
school I find I can go back to bed and sleep til they get home. I
started taking it because of anxiety and panic attacks. Before i
started taking it I couldn’t sleep at all. I brought it up with the
burse at my psychiatrists office and she said she had never heard of
lexapro making people tired. I jus want a happy medium, I want to be
able to sleep, but I also want to be awake occasionally.. :) Thanks,
Les
