Fwd: [Lexapro] Myths Doctors have told us vs. the reality
Oh gosh………due to the cost with my insurance, my doctor wants me to
switch to Celexa from Lexapro. I have been on Lex for almost two years, 10 mg.
and do fine, except tired all the time. Does anyone have anything good to
say on here about Celexa? Susan

My doctor told me that Celexa does not cause weight gain.
The reality: I gained over 50 lbs in 14 months on this drug. No matter what
I did to attempt to lose it it simply would not come off.
You can wean off this drug is just a few weeks.
The reality: It took me 6 months to come off of Celexa. When I’d been off it
completely about 6 months the weight simply started coming off. Then I was
put on Effexor XR.
These drugs don’t make you gain weight.
The reality: I’m back where I was when I was taking the Celexa. I was
working a job as a spinner in a cotton factory. I worked 12 hour shifts and
average
9 miles of walking a night. Not slow walking but fast and alot of physical
activity besides the walking. After the first few weeks, for me, normally the
weight should have started melting off and fairly quickly at that. Did it?
NO. Sigh.

Celexa was the first SSRI that actually worked for me. I felt great for quite
awhile until some situational stuff came up that made me more depressed. An
increase in the dosage would have done the trick for me but my doc wouldn’t
prescribe it to me at a higher dose because the FDA didn’t approve it for that
dose. So I switched to Lexapro and felt even better. My insurance will pay for
it but only for 20mg. I needed 40 mg to feel well, but ran into the same
problem, so my doc added Wellbutrin to my med regieme. I don’t feel as well as I
did when I was on the 40 mg of Lexapro (which I took for several months before
the insurance company caught up with me) But I atleast have some energy which I
didn’t have on just the 20mg of Lex. Sue C— On Sun 02/04, <
