I would defer to your doctor's advice, but IMHO and non-medical opinion;
I would do it very gradually. I don't know what dosage you're taking, but
for example if you're taking 20mg, then cut back to 15mg. or 10mg for a few
weeks.
If you're taking 10mg, then cut back to 5mg for a few weeks.
Then cut back to 2.5mg for a few weeks.
It may seem like being overly cautious, but I just think it's easier on our
bodies if we cut back on any drugs gradually, especially one like this that has
troublesome withdrawal symptoms.
Hope this helps.

how are folks doing when they wean off lex after a year. do you find
you're ok when you take one now and then? Curious for reaction.

Dosing might be hard to compare. I take 10mg but because I drag myself through
the day just went back to 5 with Wellbutrin added. I have the anxiety under
control somewhat, depression is not too bad.
beatch38 <beatch38@...
been taking Lexapro for months now, I
started out with 10 mg. and now take 20 mg. I take it in the morning.
I have no probelm sleeping either day or night. But I am also on other
meds. Thank goodness I haven't experience the rls with the meds I am
taking. I have had this before when I took tylenol nighttime pills.
And some other med. gave me rls but I dont' recall which it was. My
moods are fairly stable now compared to what they were. I can't say
I'm not depressed but the crying jags have stopped. I am curious of
what dosage others are taking. I am not a small person. For my size I
think it may be a low dose?
Thank you for any feedback.

Jeff, are you taking your Lexapro in the morning or evenings? Perhaps you
should take it in the mornings if you feel it's causing insomnia. The only med
that gave me SEVERE insomnia was Wellbutrin. I seriously could stay up all
night long, no matter what time of day I took it. Good luck to you. I hope you
can find something that works.
I've heard that 20 mg of Lexapro makes some people sleepy..so maybe the increase
will be a good thing for you.

Hi Guys,
I started Lexapro 10mg on Sunday. Sunday night I slept for 2 hours and
Monday I slept for 1.5 hours. I am very frustrated. I always struggle
with insomnia. It goes in cycles for me. About 2 and half weeks ago my
insomnia started again. But when I don't sleep well it is usually 4
hours a night, not 1-2 hoard like the last two nights. I am already
taking Ambien CR at night.
Has anyone else had this experience (Lexapro Insomnia)? Did it go
away? I don't know if I should tough it out or just stop (with my doc
guidance). My doc wants me to go up to 20mg on Sunday. In General
SSRI's make me a little wired, but never like this. Usually if I take
my meds in the morning it is manageable. Any Advice or your
experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

I tried Effexor; one of the side effects can be an elevated blood pressure.
That's what happened to me. I take Lexapro (10 mg) every morning and it's
worked wonders for me. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the response, Cathy!
I'm not sure I'll "make it" in terms of getting off lexapro.
Yesterday I spent about 15 minutes in the bathroom crying ...
Question: have you ever heard of a man spending 15 minutes in the
bathroom crying while at work???? (good heavens!)
I tried a couple of years ago to get off, and my fibromyalgia started
getting worked up so I quit and started back on it.
I have no idea why it's started to effect me now, after six weeks. I
guess every body is different.
Regarding the "electric shocks" -- I noticed those probably about 4
months into the lexapro, thinking back on it. As I said before, I
mentioned it to my doc, but he never said it was the lexapro -- I
just discovered that yesterday on line.
Since I've started tapering I haven't noticed it all that much - but
I did notice it this weekend.
I'm better today. I'm going to keep on with the 5 mg for another two
weeks, and then start decreasing that. If the depression had lasted
longer than a couple of days, I'd probably give up.
I'll keep you posted.

I started breaking the 10mg pills in half where they are etched so I
started at 5mg. These side effects occured at 5mg once per day. I
wish I could say this drug worked for me like everyone else in this
list serve. But for now, I guess its back to the old psych doc for me.
